WE CAN'T COMPETE

We can’t compete with the images we see, they’re everywhere; they’re staring back at me. The edited result of the digital age, it’s the illusion of perfection on every page. She cries! When she looks at herself in the mirror; a victim of a standard she’ll never meet. The images in her head have got her beat; it seems so out of reach! It’s all “cut and paste” or “nip and tuck”. We have to remember what’s underneath. Turn the page open your eyes! It’s all a lie. We’re the billboard generation with false hope in our eyes; facing lies with every corner we turn, we’ve been brought up to crash and burn. She cries! When eating feels like a crime, the limit has been pushed to its brink. Our self worth is lost in how we are made to think. It seems so out of reach! It’s all “cut and paste” or “nip and tuck”. We have to remember what’s underneath. Turn the page open your eyes! It’s all a lie. They paint a pretty picture of the perfect human form; all the while we’re ashamed of ourselves for having a body that fits the norm. We have to look beyond TV screens and magazines because the most beautiful people are standing here beside you and me. See past the lies.
